Well, one of the reasons why I didn't have much time to update my xanga is because of the progress tests.

We had all of them in 2 weeks along with all the other teachings.

During our 2 weeks of extremely hard-working, we decided we are keen enough to recieve the grand price of "keener-eggs".

What are keener eggs? I think a few pictures will explain it:

Well, enough said.....

Finally have time to update my xanga...

These couple of months' been very fun and exciting, a lot of stuff happened. I'm going to split the updates into bits... They are all going to be colourful with loads of pictures, hope it's worth your time reading them:
1: Kart Trip
2: Progress Test period
3: Birthday & Christmas
4: New Year
5: Paris Trip

Going to start off with the kart trip stuff tonight:

Well, it happened on the 19th of November, 2005. First trip this year with fast karts. Although we are building the new fast 4-stroke karts with clutch, they surely are going to be fun, but they weren't ready for the trip.

What we took this time is the pro-kart (left), the Rotax (centre) and the Solo (right):

In case you have no idea what I'm talking about:

The pro-kart has two 4 stroke engines. It uses direct fuel injection, has a centrafugal clutch. It's pretty slow compared to the other 2, you can pretty much go flat out all the way... No need to push start if you spin. Also extremely reliable, prefect for newbies. Top speed's about 45miles per hour.

The Solo has a 2 stroke direct drive engine. It has no clutch. It means if you spin, someone have to push start you. This beast is pretty fast, 0-60 in about 5-6 seconds and top speed is around 65 miles per hour. It's pretty difficult to control as it uses a "chain-saw" cab... It means the throttle is either on or off. Bad for cornering as you will lose it coming out of corners... Although it has pretty amazing straight line speed, the lap times are about the same as a pro-kart. I spent most of my time in this on the day.

The Rotax has a 2 stroke engine with water-cooling. It has a centralfugal clutch and a starter motor. It's the fastest kart we have. 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and top speed is 75 miles per hour. It's eaiser to push than the solo but I don't think I have enough skills to drive it yet. It's what the professionals drive... Apparently, you have to drift it to get the most out of it.

Photo time:

Well, this guy just spun... I tell you, this is not the first time and won't be the only time he will spin. He managed to crash into the tire wall top speed, fell out of the kart and slid across the track in a pro-kart!!!! What a nutter... Did quite a bit of damage to the kart as well. It was a mistake letting him into the solo, he managed to spin it 4 times in a lap. We have to run out onto the track to push-start him every single time. It's probably a good idea if he stick with the pro-kart, no, actually, that's too fast for him:

The pro-kart on its own:

Solo, producing a lot of smoke as the engine is running rich to conserve the spark-plug:

The Rotax, doing a nice drift:

That's the end of the kart-trip update, hope you enjoyed reading it.

Finally have time to update my xanga....

Been very busy doing my pump project and preparing for my progress test....

Well, acutally, not only working hard, I've been playing hard as well.

Example of working hard:
Our pump design:

Spent a few hours doing it... but I'm not even suppose to be doing the solidworks model... I already have to do the manufacturing next term.

Example of playing hard:
Went karting on Sunday evening (6th)....
A really good night out... Except for the waiting... We have about 50 people racing each other. Each of us would do 5 random 4 lap races (5 karts on track) to qualify into different race classes. After we get sorted into different classes, we have finals with 10 cars on track and the final is 10 laps.

The karts were slow... Especially the acceleration... Every time I acceleration, I have to play with the centrifugal clutch by rocking back and forth... Top speed's only around 40mph, which is nothing compared to the karts I use to.

I didn't do too well, the best people there are lapping in the low 26 and high 25... My best lap was a low 27... Hence I only came 7th in class D.... I also managed to have 3 pretty serious crashes... The first time, I was fighting for the racing line in a corner exit... I managed to get pushed into the tire wall at a pretty fast pace... Made a loud noise... 2nd time, I got a kart with dodgy brakes... I was going too fast into a hairpin, locked up and spun into the tire wall... The third time, I was going out a corner a lot quicker than the other guy.... but I wasn't fast enough to get into the gap between the tire wall and him... hence another specticular crash with plenty of noise.

Anyway, some pictures... none of myself though....
Getting into the karts in the pit:

What the start line looks like:

Some people lining up for racing:

Well, after the progress test yesterday, I went shopping in Knightsbridge at around 4pm. Thought we are early enough to go to HSBC... Then I saw:

What is this world coming to? Bank closing at 3:30 in the afternoon?

Probably not going to update for another while... Hope you had fun reading.
